I lost my passport or it was stolen
4 tasks in suggested order
1. Immediately report the loss, theft or destruction of the passport through the official channel to prevent it from being used.
As soon as you become aware of the loss, theft or destruction.
Passport service/police in Romania; abroad, the local police and the Romanian diplomatic mission/consulate.
Passport details, another identity document and the circumstances of the incident.
Do not use a passport that has been reported and cancelled if you later find it.

2. Check that the report has been recorded and keep proof of cancellation, especially if the document was stolen.
At the same time as the report.
The authority receiving the report.
Document number and proof of the report/complaint.
Cancellation protects against later use of the document, but it does not replace applying for a new one.

3. Apply for a new passport through the normal process or the process available for a justified urgent case, and track delivery/collection.
After reporting the loss/theft and with enough time before travel.
The competent passport service or consulate.
Identity document, payment/proof where required, and the required documents or biometrics.
An airline ticket does not guarantee immediate issuance; booking details must match the new document.

4. If you are abroad without a travel document and need to return, apply to the consulate for the appropriate travel title.
As early as possible before your return journey.
The competent Romanian diplomatic mission or consular office.
Proof of identity and citizenship, police report and travel details.
The travel title has a limited purpose and validity and is not equivalent to a passport for every itinerary.
