1. Determine the level of your studies and the purpose of recognition: continuing education, employment, a regulated profession or recognition of a study period.

2. Check whether the file must be submitted to CNRED, directly to a university/school inspectorate or to the competent professional authority.
Before paying any fee and sending the documents.
The CNRED portal and the institution that will use the recognition decision.
Issuing country, qualification level, citizenship and purpose of the application.
The competent institution depends on the level of study, the purpose of recognition and, for regulated professions, the legislation governing that profession.

3. Prepare the documents in the required form, including an apostille or superlegalisation, authorised translations and authenticity checks where applicable.

The diploma issuer, legalisation authority and authorised translator; the competent institution confirms the final requirements.
Diploma, supplement/transcript, identity document and, where required, course syllabuses.
First check the exceptions and the accepted form of documents for the issuing country.

4. Submit the official application, keep the file number and respond to requests for additional documents or verification.
After preparing the file and before any admission or employment deadline.
CNRED or the competent institution you identified.
Application, academic documents, identity document, payment if required and power of attorney if someone else submits the file.
The processing period may begin only after the file is complete.

5. For a regulated profession, continue with professional recognition, registration with the relevant professional body and any compensatory measures required.
After or in parallel with academic recognition, according to the rules of the profession.

Academic recognition does not automatically replace authorisation to practise a regulated profession; check the competent professional authority.
