1. Register your residence and obtain the registration certificate if you remain in Romania for more than 3 months.
When?
For a stay exceeding 3 months.
Where / who?
The territorial Inspectoratul General pentru Imigrări (IGI) unit responsible for your place of residence.
What to prepare?
A valid identity document or passport and documents proving the basis of your stay: employment, self-employment, studies, or resources and insurance, as applicable.
What to check?
The identity document you present must be valid; from August 2026, some EU identity documents that no longer meet the security standards can no longer be used for residence formalities.
