Moving to a new address within the country – what else needs to be done?
6 tasks in suggested order
1. Report your new place of residence or temporary stay, providing a document authorizing your use of the property or the landlord's approval.
After moving in, within the applicable reporting deadline.
Government Window (Kormányablak) / District Office or a supported electronic service. (official Hungarian name: járási hivatal)
Personal identification documents, address card, and proof of the right to use the property.
The lease agreement and the address registration are two separate matters.

2. Collect your new address card and check which ongoing cases require a separate update to your mailing address.
After registering the address, before the deadlines for any ongoing cases.
The document-issuing authority and the authorities handling specific cases.
New address details, case identifiers, and personal identification documents.
A change in the central registry does not necessarily update every delivery address.

3. If you own a vehicle, check the requirements for updating registration and insurance details.
After the change of address, in accordance with document and insurance regulations.

Vehicle registration document, personal identification documents, insurance details, and new address.
Insurance and vehicle registry records are not always updated in the same step.

4. When moving, record the meter readings and check with each provider whether you need to transfer, close or start a contract.
Around the time you move out and move in.
With the relevant utility and other service providers.
Contract or customer references, meter readings, and details of the old and new addresses.

5. Update your address with employers or benefit-paying bodies where the address is actually needed for contact or for assessing entitlement.
After moving, where the address is relevant to that organisation.
With the relevant employer or benefit-paying body.
Your new address and any identification details requested by the organisation.
This is not the same general statutory duty for everyone; it is only required where the specific employment or benefit relationship makes the address relevant.
6. If useful, arrange mail forwarding and update your address with banks, insurers, subscription services and other private contracts.
Before moving or shortly afterwards, if these services are affected.
With Magyar Posta and the relevant private service providers.
