1. Clarify the legally permitted way to end the apprenticeship
Special rules apply to ending an apprenticeship. During the three-month probation period, the apprenticeship can be terminated in writing without giving reasons; there are also, among other options, termination by mutual agreement and other statutory forms of termination.

Not every type of termination works like an ordinary employment relationship. Check the appropriate statutory route before making a declaration.

2. Terminate in writing and notify the apprenticeship office within the deadline
Where required, termination of the apprenticeship must be in writing. The competent apprenticeship office of the Economic Chamber must be informed of the termination within three weeks.

For underage apprentices, the signatures of their legal guardians are additionally required.

3. Have the written termination documents and apprenticeship contract ready
Depending on the form of termination, you need the written declaration or agreement; for minors, the required guardian signatures are also needed.

4. For termination by mutual agreement, first obtain confirmation of the prior legal briefing from the Chamber of Labour
For termination by mutual agreement, both sides must sign a written declaration. In addition, confirmation from the competent Chamber of Labour is required that the apprentice was informed about the statutory rules governing termination.
