1. After selling a vehicle, report its disposal within the required deadline; the seller’s reporting duty is separate from the buyer’s registration duty.
When?
Report the disposal within 30 days. Missing the deadline may result in a PLN 250 fine. The buyer generally has 30 days to apply for registration, while a vehicle-trading business has 90 days.
Where / who?
The competent vehicle-registration department: the district authority (starostwo powiatowe), city with county rights, or district office in Warsaw; an electronic service is also available.
What to prepare?
Vehicle details and a document confirming the disposal.
What to check?
Since 1 January 2024, a buyer generally applies to register the vehicle rather than merely reporting its acquisition. Do not confuse this with the seller’s separate duty to report the disposal.
