I bought a vehicle and need to register it.
2 tasks in suggested order
1. Check whether the transferred compulsory motor liability insurance (OC) is still valid and when it expires. If you want to change the policy, compare the terms of several offers and make sure there is no gap in cover.
After buying the vehicle, before cancelling the transferred policy or before its cover period ends.
With the current insurer and, if you want to change the policy, with selected insurers.
Vehicle details, owner or holder details, and information about the current OC policy.
The OC policy for a used vehicle transfers to the buyer by law, but the transferred policy will not renew automatically for the next period. Therefore, not every buyer should immediately take out a new policy.
2. Apply to register the purchased vehicle with the competent authority.
You have 30 days from the date you acquired the vehicle, for example through purchase or donation.
At the transport department competent for your permanent or temporary place of residence: the district office (starostwo powiatowe), a city office in a city with county rights, or the relevant district office in Warsaw.
The registration application, proof of ownership of the vehicle, and the other documents required for that type of vehicle and its origin.
Details regarding documents and fees depend on, among other things, whether the vehicle is new, used, imported, or already registered in Poland.
