1. Choose the ceremony, a registered solemniser, the date and a suitable venue

2. Book and attend the marriage-notification appointment at least 3 months before the marriage

Both parties generally attend the registrar. The notification fee is €200 and is non-refundable.

3. Prepare photo ID, birth certificates, recent proof of address, PPS numbers and any special-status documents

Bring valid photo ID plus a copy, original birth certificates plus copies, proof of address dated within the last 3 months, PPS numbers and any extra documents required for divorce, widowhood or foreign documents.

4. Hold the ceremony with a registered solemniser and 2 witnesses aged 18 or over

5. If the marriage is religious or secular, return the Marriage Registration Form within 1 month

Return the form to any civil registration service. If the marriage is civil, the registrar who conducts the ceremony registers it.
