I have a foreign driving licence and need to check its validity or exchange it in Czechia
4 tasks in suggested order
1. Determine the regime for the foreign driving licence according to the issuing state and document type.
Before deciding whether the foreign licence is sufficient or exchange is required/possible.

Valid driving licence and details of your residence in Czechia.
EU/EEA licences and third-country licences follow different rules; for third countries, compliance with international conventions also matters.

2. For an EU/EEA licence, check whether you may continue using it or, if the normal-residence conditions are met, want to exchange it for a Czech licence.
If applicable: If your driving licence was issued in the EU/EEA.
After moving to Czechia or when you need a Czech document.
Any municipal authority of a municipality with extended competence (ORP).
Valid identity document, valid driving licence and proof of normal residence where required.
A valid EU licence generally does not have to be exchanged merely because you live in Czechia.

3. For a third-country licence, check whether it is recognised, your residence status and whether exchange is required or possible.
If applicable: If your driving licence was issued outside the EU/EEA.
After obtaining the relevant residence status or when you have normal residence in Czechia.
Any ORP.
Valid foreign licence, identity/residence document and additional evidence required for the specific branch.
Not every non-European licence is automatically eligible for exchange; the document format under the relevant conventions or a special regime also matters.

4. If exchange is required or available in your case, apply at an ORP and hand in the foreign licence according to the current procedure.
