My child has been born – what needs to be arranged?

1. Choose the child's name and gather the information required to issue the birth certificate.

When?

After the birth, following the registration of the birth.

Where / who?

Registry office (matrika) corresponding to the place of birth.

What to prepare?

Details of the parents and the child; any relevant documents based on family circumstances.

What to check?

In the case of a birth in a medical facility, the facility submits the notification; parents handle the details and any special circumstances.

2. If the parents are not married and paternity has not been established, make a joint declaration of paternity.

When?

Before the birth or after the child is born.

Where / who?

Registry office or court, depending on the situation.

What to prepare?

Parents' identification documents and necessary civil registry documents.

What to check?

Applies only to situations where paternity has not been established by other means.

3. Notify the health insurance company of the child's birth.

When?

Within 8 days of birth.

Where / who?

The mother's health insurance company; if the mother is not insured in the Czech system, follow the rule for the father's insurance.

What to prepare?

Child's and parent's details as required by the insurance company.

What to check?

This obligation applies to a child covered by the Czech public health insurance system.

4. Apply for the paternity allowance if you meet the eligibility criteria.

When?

Within the statutory timeframe following the child's birth or placement in your care.

Where / who?

ČSSZ (Czech Social Security Administration) / employer, depending on the applicant's status.

What to prepare?

Supporting documents as required by the paternity allowance rules.

What to check?

This is a separate sickness insurance benefit.
