1. Claim pension
A benefit from the statutory pension insurance system is generally granted only on application. Therefore, clarify the intended pension start date and your personal eligibility requirements with the insurance institution in advance.
The application can be submitted before all requirements are met. The official portal recommends applying about 2 to 3 months before the planned retirement date, and no later than the end of the final month before the planned retirement date.
Apply to the competent pension insurance institution; the available in-person, written or digital application channels depend on the institution.
Check your insurance record/pension account and the personal documents and evidence required for the type of pension being claimed.
The type of pension, qualifying date and entitlement depend on age, insurance periods and the rules that apply to the individual case. Merely reaching a particular age does not trigger a pension automatically.
