1. Take out motor vehicle liability insurance valid in Austria before registration
A vehicle can only be registered if valid motor vehicle liability insurance in Austria exists with an insurance company authorised to provide it.

2. Prepare ID, insurance confirmation, vehicle approval document and proof of possession; check extra documents for your vehicle's circumstances.
Registration requires proof of identity, insurance confirmation and the appropriate approval document; additional documents are required depending on the vehicle and holder situation.

3. For a private import, complete approval-database entry, NoVA and any customs requirements before registration.
For a privately imported vehicle, the vehicle must be entered in the approval database before registration; NoVA must also be paid and, where applicable, proof of customs clearance is required.

Vehicle registration is carried out through authorised registration offices. Beforehand, valid motor vehicle liability insurance in Austria must be in place.
