1. Cancel a lost or stolen British passport and replace it if needed
Report a lost or stolen British passport to HM Passport Office so it can be cancelled. If you still need a passport, use the official replacement application after cancellation.
Cancel it as soon as you realise it is lost or stolen. Apply for a replacement when you need a valid passport.
HM Passport Office through GOV.UK. If you are abroad and need to travel urgently, check the Emergency Travel Document route.
Your personal and passport details if known, contact details and the identity/photo evidence requested for the replacement application.
A cancelled passport cannot be used again if you later find it. If it was stolen, also follow any local police/reporting requirement that applies where the theft happened.
