1. If your doctor issues an ePN, you generally do not submit a separate sickness-benefit claim; for an employee whose incapacity starts on or after 1 January 2026, the employer pays income compensation for the first 14 days and Social Insurance sickness benefit starts on day 15.
When?
From the onset of temporary incapacity for work.
Where / who?
The doctor, the employer, and—depending on the situation—the Social Insurance Agency.
What to prepare?
For a paper sick note, the relevant sections of the certificate; in the event of an injury, an accident report may also be required.
What to check?
The 14/15-day split applies to employees. Self-employed people, voluntarily sickness-insured persons, people in a protection period, or employees whose employment ends during sickness absence may have a different entitlement start. With ePN, issuance itself counts as the claim.
