1. Business record-keeping requirements

Keep the records used to calculate business taxes, including receipts, purchase records, sales invoices, ledgers and accounting books. Revenue requires the original records to be kept for 6 years.

When?

Keep records continuously for business transactions and retain them for 6 years.

Where / who?

Keep them in your business records; digital receipt copies can also be stored using Revenue’s ROS Receipts Tracker where suitable.

What to prepare?

PPSN or company/CRO details, business activity, start date, expected tax registrations and records.

What to check?

You remain responsible for record keeping even if an accountant or agent keeps the records for you. For a partnership, the precedent partner is responsible.
