1. Register unemployed with AMS
Anyone claiming unemployment benefit must follow the official AMS registration and application process.
When?
An application for Arbeitslosengeld can be submitted 3 weeks before a known end date; at the latest on the first day of unemployment, or on the next working day if that day is a weekend/public holiday.
Where / who?
AMS via MeinAMS or in person at the competent office.
What to prepare?
Social insurance number and information on employment, family and other circumstances asked about in the application.
What to check?
Since 1.7.2025, the application for Arbeitslosengeld also counts as the unemployment registration. Delays can affect the start of benefits.
