2 tasks in suggested order
1. Register early with AMS for job search
If your employment end is known and you are already looking for a new job, you can register with AMS for job search without simultaneously applying for unemployment benefit.
As soon as you need support with finding a new job.
Via MeinAMS or in person at the competent AMS office.
Information about previous work, education, qualifications, desired role, work location and working hours.
Job-search registration alone does not replace a later application for unemployment benefit.

2. Apply for unemployment benefit in time
If you want to receive unemployment benefit, submit the application via MeinAMS or in person. The application also counts as registration as unemployed.
At the earliest 3 weeks before the known end of employment; no later than the first day of unemployment (next working day if that day is a weekend/public holiday).
MeinAMS or the competent AMS office.
The personal, employment and job-placement information requested for the application.
Late registration can delay benefit entitlement and cause gaps in health or pension insurance.
