1. Stamp Duty when buying property

For standard residential-property transfers, current Stamp Duty rates are 1% on consideration up to €1 million, 2% on the portion over €1 million up to €1.5 million, and 6% on the portion over €1.5 million. Special higher-rate and multi-apartment rules can apply.

When?

Check Stamp Duty and Local Property Tax obligations during conveyancing and before closing/filing deadlines.

Where / who?

Revenue; solicitor/conveyancer usually coordinates transaction documents but tax obligations remain with parties.

What to prepare?

Property price/details, PPSN/tax reference and transaction documents.

What to check?

Do not apply the standard residential rate automatically to every transaction: non-residential, multiple-property, mixed-use and relief/exemption cases have different rules.
