A landlord cannot ask for a security deposit of more than one month’s rent; the RTB also provides an official tenant moving-out checklist.
When?
Document condition at move-in and move-out; request deposit return after tenancy obligations are completed.

Landlord/agent; RTB for official rights/dispute procedures.
What to prepare?
Deposit receipt, inventory, dated photos, meter readings and proof of rent/bill payments.
What to check?
Security deposit is capped by RTB rules; lawful deductions can include arrears, unpaid bills or damage beyond normal wear.
