Claim within 6 weeks of becoming ill and be medically certified from the first day. If the illness does not exceed your available 5 days of Statutory Sick Leave, DSP says you do not need to apply for Illness Benefit.

Apply through MyWelfare or by the official IB1 route; your doctor can submit the Certificate of Incapacity for Work electronically.

Medical certificate/eCert, PPSN, employment/PRSI and bank details as requested.

Statutory Sick Leave is employer-paid and separate: the current statutory entitlement remains 5 days per calendar year, paid at 70% of gross earnings up to €110 per day, subject to the scheme conditions. Illness Benefit can apply after that if you qualify.
