1. Apply for orphan’s pension
Orphan’s pension must be applied for. Legal representatives can apply for minors; from age 15 a minor orphan can apply personally under the conditions stated by DRV.
When?
As soon as possible after the death; observe the applicable retroactive-payment rules for survivor pensions.
Where / who?
Deutsche Rentenversicherung.
What to prepare?
Death certificate of the deceased parent, orphan’s birth certificate; for orphans over 18, where applicable proof of education/voluntary service and other information requested by DRV.
What to check?
Additional conditions apply for continued payment to orphans over 18.
