For parental leave before the child’s 3rd birthday, the general notice period is 7 weeks before it starts; for leave between the 3rd birthday and the day before the 8th birthday, it is generally 13 weeks.

You notify your employer of parental leave in text form. Text form can, for example, be an email or an unsigned letter.

State the requested period clearly. Depending on the period, you may also have to commit to certain time segments when notifying the employer.

Shorter deadlines may apply in urgent exceptional cases. Do not confuse the employer notice period with the application for parental allowance at the parental-allowance office.
