1. Deregister a vehicle
If you no longer want to use a vehicle on public roads, you can have it taken out of service by the registration authority. After that it may no longer be driven or parked on public roads.
When?
Complete the appropriate registration procedure before using/changing the vehicle.
Where / who?
Locally competent Kfz-Zulassungsbehörde.
What to prepare?
For deregistration, you particularly need registration certificate Part I and the number plates or their security codes; online procedures have additional technical requirements.
What to check?
After the vehicle is taken out of service, the registration authority generally also informs the insurer and customs authority. Whether and how dormant insurance continues depends on the insurance contract.
