1. Health insurance when leaving
For a permanent move abroad, check whether compulsory Swiss health insurance ends or whether an exception applies to you.
When?
As a rule, the insurance obligation ends when you move away from Switzerland. Exceptions include certain pensioners, cross-border commuters and posted workers.
Where / who?
Contact your own health insurer first; for cross-border exceptions use the competent bodies identified by the Federal Office of Public Health.
What to prepare?
Have proof of deregistration/new residence and evidence of employment, pension, posting or cross-border status ready where relevant.
What to check?
A temporary stay abroad without moving your residence generally does not end the Swiss insurance obligation.
