1. Check family reunification for third-country status
For family reunification outside the EU/EFTA free-movement rules, entitlement, eligible family members and requirements depend on the residence status of the person already living in Switzerland.
Check early: statutory deadlines apply to spouses and minor children depending on residence status; for example, the SEM states five years and, for children over twelve years old, twelve months in certain cases.
Cantonal migration authority at the place of residence.
Travel documents, proof of the family relationship and the documents on accommodation, financial means and residence status required by the cantonal authority.
The requirements differ according to permit and status. Late family reunification may only be possible under additional statutory conditions.
