1. Non-EU/EFTA: clarify work and residence permits before starting work
A job offer alone does not entitle third-country nationals to start work in Switzerland. As a rule, the employer submits the permit application; in particular, qualified workers may be admitted if the statutory labour-market conditions are met.
Before entering Switzerland and starting work. After entry, registration at the place of residence is required within 14 days at the latest; employment may only begin after registration.
The application is handled by the cantonal labour-market or migration authority and, where required, by the SEM; if a visa is required, the competent Swiss representation abroad is also involved.
Passport, employment contract or job offer, proof of qualifications and any other documents required by the employer or by the canton/SEM.
Quotas, priority rules and requirements concerning qualifications, salary and working conditions apply. A residence permit from an EU/EFTA state does not replace a Swiss work permit.
