1. Apply for a disability pass
The disability pass (Behindertenpass) is an official photo ID and nationwide proof of disability. As a rule, it requires a degree of disability or reduction in earning capacity of at least 50 percent, together with the connection to Austria described on the official page.
Apply if these requirements may be met and official proof is needed.
Competent regional office of the Sozialministeriumservice (SMS).
Application plus any available decisions, rulings, judgments or detailed medical documents; a photograph if no suitable photo is already available.
The disability pass itself does not create an entitlement to a cash benefit and is not the same as the status of “begünstigte Behinderte” (registered disabled person for employment-law purposes) or a parking permit. If the degree of disability has not yet been determined, the Sozialministeriumservice carries out an assessment.
