If applicable: If you live in England, Scotland or Wales and need to claim Universal Credit.
Check eligibility, create the online account and submit the claim. The claim must be submitted within 28 days of creating the account; if you live with a partner, both partners create accounts and link them.
When you need means-tested support and meet the eligibility rules. Submit within 28 days after creating the account.
GOV.UK Universal Credit online account; Jobcentre Plus is involved in the claim process when directed.
Email, bank details, housing costs, earnings, savings/investments, household/childcare information and identity evidence requested by the service.
In Great Britain the first payment is normally 5 weeks after the claim. An interview is normally arranged within 10 working days after submission. Northern Ireland uses its own administrative guidance and normally pays twice a month.

If applicable: If you live in Northern Ireland and need to claim Universal Credit.
In Northern Ireland, create the secure Universal Credit online account and submit the claim within 28 days. The claim starts on the date you submit it.
When you need Universal Credit and meet the Northern Ireland eligibility rules; submit within 28 days of creating the account.

Email, bank/building society/Credit Union details, identity evidence and the household, housing, income/savings information requested by the service.
The first payment is normally about 5 weeks after the claim. Northern Ireland normally pays Universal Credit twice a month, with an option to ask for monthly payment after claiming.
