1. Claim your State Pension when you want payments to start
If applicable: If you are entitled to State Pension and want payments to start.
The State Pension is not paid automatically. If you are entitled to it, you must make a claim; you can also choose to defer it instead of claiming immediately at State Pension age.
If applying online, you can request an invitation code when you are within 3 months of State Pension age if you have not received the invitation letter. A phone claim can be made when you are within the next 4 months.

Date of your most recent marriage, civil partnership or divorce; dates lived or worked abroad; bank details; foreign social-security numbers where relevant; invitation code for an online claim.
Reaching State Pension age does not force you to stop work, and claiming is separate from the decision to retire from employment.
