If applicable: If you and your partner want to convert eligible maternity/adoption leave or pay into Shared Parental Leave/Pay.
Eligible parents can share up to 50 weeks of Shared Parental Leave and up to 37 weeks of Statutory Shared Parental Pay in the first year, but this only becomes available after maternity/adoption leave or pay is reduced and both parents meet the relevant tests.
Give the required entitlement/curtailment notices and at least 8 weeks’ notice before a period of Shared Parental Leave. The mother/adopter’s notice to end maternity/adoption leave or pay is normally binding.

Shared Parental Leave and Shared Parental Pay have separate eligibility tests. Great Britain and Northern Ireland have separate official employment-law guidance, even though both use an 8-week notice framework.
