3 tasks in suggested order
1. First determine whether your activity is a free, craft or regulated trade and whether it falls under the Trade Licensing Act at all.
Before notifying the trade.
Official trade lists / Point of Single Contact.
Exact description of the activity and, for craft/regulated trades, evidence of professional competence.
Not every self-employed activity is a free trade; some professions are governed by special legislation.

2. Notify the trade through the Point of Single Contact in person or electronically and provide the documents required for the chosen type.
Before starting the activity.
Point of Single Contact at the district office or the electronic service.
Identification details, business activities and any required evidence of competence or responsible representative.
Fees and documentary requirements may differ between electronic and in-person filing.

3. After the trade starts, check tax registration, health insurance and when compulsory social insurance begins.
After the authorisation arises and whenever your insurance status changes.
Financial Administration, health insurer and Social Insurance Agency as applicable.
Start date, tax data and information about other employment or self-employment.
Starting a trade does not mean all insurance obligations begin on the same day.
