1. Find the competent authority via the Federal Portal
Many services in the German Federal Portal are regionalised. For a specific service you can select the region or place of residence so the competent authority and local information are shown.
When?
Before applying for an administrative service handled locally or at state level.
Where / who?
Federal Portal; select the region/place of residence for the required service. Alternatively use authority number 115 for administrative questions.
What to prepare?
Place of residence/postcode and the administrative service you need.
What to check?
Not every service is handled by the same authority. Always check competence for the specific service and actual place of residence.
